An Interview With Ada From Whirl
To celebrate the release of new Whirl episodes this week, we’re sharing an interview with Ada from the series Whirl: Ada & Friends below! Check it out and watch the full series on Minno today!
Interview contributed by Naomi Krueger, with special contributions from Aaron Christopher.
As one of the developers for our children’s resources, I’ve had the pleasure of participating in almost every script and video review meeting for the Whirl videos. Ada, Leo, and the rest of the Whirl kids have such dynamic personalities and storylines—I’m always eager to see what shenanigans the writers come up with and how the Whirl kids are living out their faith in hilarious and meaningful ways. So I thought it would be fun to interview the Whirl characters to introduce you to them. Who are they? What makes them tick? So, with special thanks to Executive Producer Aaron Christopher, I bring you the first in a series of character interviews.
Q: Hi Ada! Tell us about yourself. How old are you? Who’s in your family?
A: Hello! I’m 7 years old, and I attend First Second Church with my older brother Leo and my younger sister Tot. Oh, and my twin brother Otto of course!
Q: What is it like being a twin? What should we know about your brother Otto?
A: Having a twin is great! I always have someone my own age to play with and talk to, which is nice. Though we are pretty different. Like, really, really different! I enjoy things like doing math homework and starting a savings account at the bank. Otto enjoys things like building a homemade hot air balloon and dressing up like a cowboy ninja. But things are never boring when Otto is around, that is for sure.
Q: You seem pretty even-keeled. What riles you up?
A: Well, I don’t like to sit by if someone is being treated unfairly. If Victor is playing tricks on someone, you can bet I’ll go over there and very sincerely ask him to not do that, please. Other than that, I’m annoyed by most of the regular things a 7 year old doesn’t like. People who chew with their mouth open, long division problems that have remainders, disorganized fanny packs, and pencils with erasers that don’t work. I mean, what is that eraser there for, if it doesn’t work? It’s as if the eraser is lying to you. Oh, and lies. I don’t like lies either.
Q: You and your friends do some pretty zany stuff. Tell us about one of your favorite memories and what you learned about faith in that experience.
A: Otto and I once found the secret headquarters of The Altar Guild underneath First Second Church! We learned all about its members, who keep our church such a beautiful, welcoming place to worship. Although I wonder if it’s still a “secret headquarters”, now that I’ve told you. Can we retract that answer? No? Oh, because your eraser doesn’t work? Wait a second…
Q: Who do you look up to?
A: Well my parents, of course, they’ve kept Otto from seriously injuring himself for over seven years, I don’t know how they do it. Then there’s Pastor Donna, that woman is a force! I find her leadership and guidance so encouraging. I also really look up to my big brother Leo. He’s super smart and is always there for his siblings, friends, and robots.
Q: Is there anything else you want people to know about you?
A: I love honky tonk music. Don’t ask me why. But I love it.
