A Parent’s Guide to What’s In The Bible?
Are you looking for fun, easy ways to teach your kids all about the Bible? The Minno show Buck Denver Asks . . . What’s in the Bible? (created by VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer) is the perfect way for your kids (and you!) to learn all about the Bible this summer.
What is What’s in the Bible?
Through 26 30-minute episodes, Phil Vischer and his puppet friends learn about the WHOLE Bible (yep, the whole thing!) from Genesis to Revelation. Each episode has music, key facts about the Bible, favorite Bible stories, and a theological framework for understanding how all of Scripture fits together to tell one big story about God and what He has done for us. And it’s a LOT of fun!
Did you say puppets?
We did say puppets! But these are the funniest, most theologically-informed puppets you’ll ever meet, and we know you and your kids will love them. Buck Denver is a well-intentioned newscaster who, with the help of his friends, learns a whole lot about God through His Word. Other favorite characters include Sunday School Lady, Cap’n Pete (the Church history pirate), brothers Clive and Ian, and Dr. Schniffenhousen, who helps us learn how faith and science work together.
What will my kids learn from What’s in the Bible?
Like the title suggests, your kids will learn what’s in the Bible. They’ll also learn who wrote the Bible, how the Bible is one book made up of lots of books, the names of every book in the Bible, and why the Bible matters for our lives today. Pretty soon you’ll all be singing along with the names of Israel’s judges, all the minor prophets, and all the letters of Paul . . . and having fun doing it!
Who should watch What’s in the Bible?
What’s in the Bible? is loved by all ages. Kids under the age of 4 might not catch every concept, but they’ll love the puppets and singing along to the fun songs. The whole family will enjoy watching together though! Consider having What’s in the Bible? movie nights and watch two episodes together . . . with pizza and popcorn of course.
How can we use What’s in the Bible? together as a family?
There are many ways to dig into the fun and truth-filled What’s in the Bible? episodes. Here are a few ideas of how our Minno members like to use What’s in the Bible? with their families.
- Feeling ambitious? Try going through the whole Bible together this summer! There are 13 weeks from June 20 (this official start of summer) to September 22 (the official end to summer). Watch two episodes per week and you’ll have the whole Bible covered. Wow!
- Go through the whole Bible in a year. With 26 episodes you can watch one every other week then talk about it at the dinner table, at bedtime, or on the go. Summer is a great time to start!
- Choose a book of the Bible and make a plan to study it together. Watch the episodes that cover that book (noted below) and use a companion tool like the Minno Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids to dig deeper.
- Follow along with Buck Denver’s Bible Coloring Books to give your kids a hands-on activity to support what they learn.
