How Do You Integrate Faith and Learning?
This year, we’re rounding up some of our favorite bloggers to get their thoughts on faith and family. We asked them:
How do you make the Bible part of your kids’ learning, regardless of what type of school they attend?
Leah of As We Walk Along the Road
We do a daily devotion time together at the start of our day. We pray for needs we know and for missions. We also have Bible as a school subject, and in our Bible class we have specific studies such as New or Old Testament overviews, character study, the gospels, etc.
Kimberly of Living in the Sweet Spot
I created scripture memory cards for my kids (available on my blog to download and print). Each month we learn about a new topic and each week we memorize a new scripture related to that topic. The cards are designed to be double-sided. On the front of the card it says, “Read It.” That’s where the memory verse is printed. On the back of the card it says, “Pray It.” There, I have turned the verse into a prayer.
Danika of Thinking Kids
I wrote a three year Bible survey curriculum for preschool to high school for our children to use. What’s in the Bible? is an important part of Bible Road Trip. We enjoyed using Bible Road Trip in our own home so much that I share it on Thinking Kids for other families to use in their evening worship or as a part of their homeschool. It helps us study the Bible every day.
Heather of Learning As We Grow, Growing As We Learn
The theme verses for the year (Matt. 22:37, and Eccles. 9:10a) are helpful for making the Bible a part of their learning. We can always come back to some basic questions, “How are you loving God in this activity?” “Are you working with all your might, or maybe just a little?” “How does knowing about our digestive system (or fill in the blank with whatever they are studying) lead us to love God more?”

We read the Bible together regularly as a family, and discuss what it says in regard to whatever we’re going through, whether what the kids are studying in school, how they’re relating with their friends or brothers, etc.
Heidi of Our Out-of-Sync Life
Before bedtime, Daddy reads from the Bible and talks with our kiddos about God’s love for them and His desire for us to bring Him glory. We further this learning during teachable moments, trying to continually point them back to God.
Allyson of All Our Days
We read through a kids’ devotional each morning at breakfast. Right now, we’re enjoying Jesus Calling for Kids. We also work together to memorize God’s word and incorporate lots of prayer into our daily lives. Before bed we read through Bible story books, working our way through one and then starting back at the beginning with another.
Jessica of Gather and Grow
We use various resources including What’s In The Bible? since we are a public school family and the Bible isn’t a part of curriculum at school. We cover this regularly at home. It’s part of our family culture.
